Warning of Snowfall and Heavy Rain: Meteorology Issues an "Orange" Alert Bulletin

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued an "orange" level alert bulletin, forecasting snowfall and heavy rain that will affect several provinces of the Kingdom starting from Sunday, February 2, 2025.

This alert comes as the country experiences unstable weather conditions that may impact transportation in some areas.

Snowfall in the Mountains

Forecasts indicate that snow will affect altitudes above 1,400 meters starting Sunday, with snowfall expected to range between 10 and 20 cm in the regions of Ifrane, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, and Guercif. These snowfalls will intensify on Monday, reaching up to 40 cm in the same provinces, from midnight until 11:00 PM.

Heavy and Sometimes Stormy Rainfall

Heavy rainfall is also expected on Monday, February 3, 2025, with thunderstorms affecting several northwestern regions, particularly Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, and M’diq-Fnideq, where rainfall could reach between 40 and 60 mm. Other provinces such as Larache, Tangier-Assilah, Ouezzane, and Taounate will also be affected.

Impact on Transportation and Daily Life

The meteorological services warn that these weather phenomena may significantly disrupt traffic, especially in mountainous areas. Heavy rains could cause flooding and landslides, particularly in low-lying areas.

Recommended Precautionary Measures

In light of this alert, the General Directorate of Meteorology urges citizens to take precautionary measures, such as avoiding travel to areas affected by snow and heavy rain, staying away from flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, ensuring vehicle safety, and following the instructions of local authorities.
