Morocco Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Snow Linked to Atlantic Depression Marta
Weather conditions over the Atlantic Ocean are expected to be influenced this weekend by the development of a new low-pressure system named “Marta”, according to data from the national meteorological authorities.
Although the system will mainly impact southern Europe, including France, Spain, and Portugal, it is forecast to have an indirect effect on northern Morocco, particularly across the Rif region, Loukkos, northern plains, and the Atlas Mountains.
Moderate to heavy rainfall, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected in areas such as Tangier, Loukkos, Rif, Saïss, and Gharb, as well as over the Middle and High Atlas ranges. Rainfall is also likely to continue along the Atlantic coast north of Essaouira.
Additionally, snowfall is anticipated at elevations above 1600 meters in the Atlas Mountains and 1400 meters in the Rif, along with strong wind gusts and rough sea conditions.
Unsettled weather is expected to persist until early next week, followed by a gradual improvement starting Tuesday, with more stable conditions returning by Wednesday.
Meteorological authorities advise residents to exercise caution, particularly in flood-prone areas, and to remain informed through official weather bulletins and alerts
