Rain and Snow Expected in Morocco Over Four Days
In the coming hours, weather conditions in Morocco are expected to remain stable, with forecasts of rainfall and snowfall between tomorrow, Friday, and next Monday in several regions, alongside a notable drop in temperatures.
The General Directorate of Meteorology, in an orange-level weather alert, announced expected snowfall on elevations above 1,500 meters between Saturday and next Monday. Snowfall depths are predicted to range from 20 to 40 centimeters in the provinces of Azilal, Béni Mellal, Tinghir, Al Haouz, and Ouarzazate, and between 10 and 20 centimeters in the provinces of Ifrane, Boulemane, Chichaoua, and Taroudant.
For tomorrow, Friday, the forecast indicates relatively cold weather with snowfall expected on the peaks of the High Atlas exceeding 2,200 meters, as well as the possibility of light rain along the central Atlantic coasts. Strong winds are also expected in the Tangier region, the Mediterranean coasts, and the southern Anti-Atlas, with sandstorms in the northern parts of the southern provinces and some areas of the Anti-Atlas.
Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 3 and 4 degrees Celsius in the High and Middle Atlas mountains, their eastern slopes, and the eastern highlands, and between 9 and 16 degrees in the Tangier region, the central Atlantic coasts, and the southern provinces. Daytime temperatures will be slightly higher in the south but lower in the rest of the regions.
For Saturday and Sunday, snowfall is forecast on the peaks of the High and Middle Atlas above 1,800 meters, accompanied by rain or occasional thunderstorms in the Atlas, the southeastern slopes, and areas west of the High Atlas. Daytime temperatures will decrease, with cold to very cold weather expected in the morning and at night in the Atlas, Rif, southeastern slopes, and the Oriental region.
Houssein Youabed, head of communication at the General Directorate of Meteorology, explained that despite the influence of extensive high-pressure zones over the country, the upper layers of the atmosphere are affected by a low-pressure system accompanied by cold air masses, leading to moisture flow toward the central and western parts of the country as well as the Atlas mountains.
He added that this situation will result in light and sporadic rain along the Atlantic and central coasts, as well as snowfall on the peaks of the High and Middle Atlas exceeding 1,800 meters, with a continued drop in temperatures over the weekend.
