Developments of Storm "Jana" in Morocco: Impacts and Expected Path

Since the evening of Friday, March 7, 2025, Morocco has been experiencing the effects of the powerful storm "Jana," which is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and significant snowfall. Meteorological authorities have issued red and orange alerts, urging citizens to take necessary precautions.
Forecasts indicate that some regions could see rainfall exceeding 320 mm, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. Mountainous areas above 1500 meters are expected to experience heavy snowfall, potentially disrupting road networks. Additionally, wind speeds may reach up to 100 km/h, while ocean waves on the Atlantic coast could exceed 5 meters, posing dangers to maritime navigation.
The most affected regions include the north and central parts of the country, with cities such as Tangier, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Larache, Fez, Meknes, Kenitra, Rabat, and Casablanca expected to receive heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Southern areas like Agadir, Essaouira, Chichaoua, and Taroudant will also be impacted, while mountainous regions such as Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, and Midelt will see substantial snowfall.
Authorities are advising citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in high-risk areas, and to follow safety guidelines issued by local officials. The General Directorate of Meteorology is continuously monitoring the storm and will provide regular updates on its development.
